If you actually want to read a book that will help you understand how America came to be and are ready for a lot of the ugly truth, this is the book you need to read. I genuinely think everyone needs to read this one.
I was definitely at least slightly under the impression that states rights and spices were the main concerns. This was the story I was told, and I was confused when my history teachers struggled to tell this narrative.
Now I know.
This book is an excellent starting guide for understanding Black history in America and why things are the way they are. I will be honest, this book shocked me and completely changed my world which is very disappointing, as I thought I had done a decent amount of unlearning. This book is a starting point on that journey. There is so much to learn.
