The Revenge of Captain Vessia

Sails of Black and Blood: Book 1

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I don’t want to jump the gun so to speak with this book, but I have a sneaking suspicion this is going to be a 5 star book.

I don’t know how to describe it, but you get exactly what you want and more. This is some of the most beautiful writing I’ve ever read in my life. The content warnings were a bonus so I knew exactly what to expect, and they allowed what could be triggering to be a safe environment where I was an entertained reader.

I am going to inhale this book and I won’t be able to shut up about it.

The best part? This is a new author. I’m not seeing them splattered everywhere yet, and they are queer! She is genuinely so fucking talented and has so many cool lived experiences. I want to be like her when I grow up.

Yup, this is getting five stars.

I see a lot of the same tropes and dynamics and issues highlighted constantly in books, but this book took on completely different, unique elements. It is incredibly clear this author poured their soul into this work, and I gobbled it up.

I got sex, murder, pirates, vampires, and adventure?! I didn’t get traumatized even though there were heavy concepts and gnarly things happening, because it was written so well.

Most of the fun pirate and vampire books on the market currently do not appeal to me. This book is fantastic and has opened my eyes up to an entire different section of books. This is one of my favorite parts of reading.

I do not have a single bad thing to say about this book. Not one.
